Menorca Airport

The only airport in Menorca is located on the east side of the island in the city of Mahon.  A fairly modern airport recently expanded to cope with the increased tourism on the island, Mahon airport has good transport links to the various resorts of the island.  Transfers from the airport to the resort can be made via coach that can often be added to your package holiday, or by car from one of the various car hire companies.

The main road on the island called the ME-1 runs through the centre of the island from the west coast close to the city of Ciutadella right through to the east side of the island to Mahon. The main road with a maximum speed limit of 90km per hour is used to navigate to most of the tourist resorts with roads branching off to the north and south of the island to the various resorts of Menorca.

Transfer times from the airport can vary depending on the destination resort and method of transport and range from 15 – 70 minutes on average depending on the location by coach transfer and 10 – 60 minutes by car.

Car hire is recommended to explore the island of Menorca however both taxi’s and a bus service are available should they be required.  The bus service in Menorca is very efficient and depending on the resort busses may run every 15 minutes (every 30 minutes on Sundays) to nearby resorts where tickets can be purchased on a one way basis.  The cost of using the local bus service is cheaper than that of a taxi with a cost of around 1 - 1.50 euro’s to travel to a nearby resort.

Car Hire In Menorca

For those looking to venture further from their resort and explore more of the island car hire is the best method and driving in Menorca is fairly straight forward as most of the smaller roads running to the resorts join to the main road running through the centre of Menorca from Ciutadella to Mahon from the west to east coasts of the island.

Various companies operate in Menorca from the large such as Avis through to the smaller local businesses. Holiday reps and hotels can often advise on the best car hire company to use and many are able to obtain discounts if you are looking to hire a car for part of your stay on the island. Should you wish to hire a vehicle for the duration of your stay you can book in advance through of the likes of Avis and Hertz.

This often means the airport transfer provided by some tour operators will not be needed which will save both the cost added onto your holiday package and waiting time on your transfer to the resorts.
